Turkey Feather Question

I’m painting and framing Turkey feathers. One thing I’ve noticed is at the tip of the quill it leaves a wet mark. Will sanding away all the skin and maybe a little rubbing alcohol dry it up so it won’t do this?Thanks! Would love to hear your response!
