Soak it in a mixture of water and salt. Hang it and beat it with a baseball bat as it slowly dries.
There are different methods for whether the hide was tanned hair-on or hair-off (buckskin).
Soak it in a solution of cool water mixed with salt. 1 cup of salt to every gallon of water used. When the hide becomes pliable, let hide drain off then roll up and put into burlap bag. Place the whole thing into a plastic bag and put into refrigerator for a day or so to sweat out the hide.
