John Schmidt, an employee of Van Dyke’s Supply of Woonsocket, a Cabela Company, is one of two people nationwide to win “Best in the World” in the 2009 World Taxidermy Champion-ships held in May in St. Charles, Mo.
He won the “Best in the World” division with a 33 pound sneaking Bobcat in the live sculpting contest.
The sculptors had 22 hours to complete their forms during the show. He also received the blue ribbon for the Leaping Wolf he had pre-sculptured and entered in the competition.
Schmidt received a plaque for winning the award,, along with the Carl Ackeley medallion.
He also won “Best in the World” in 2003 for a howling wolf.
